About the Author
Dale Ruth Sherburne is a caregiver advocate, speaker, and author of Neither Wife nor Widow. Drawing from twenty years of caring for her husband with early-onset dementia, her work explores the unspoken emotional realities of long-term caregiving, such as guilt, resentment, and grief. Favorably reviewed in the Journal of Applied Gerontology (February 2026) and by Kirkus Book Review (December 2025), Sherburne’s book and presentations aim to normalize these difficult emotions. She advocates for greater support and resources for caregivers, emphasizing the need for increased awareness among healthcare professionals to address these critical emotional aspects of care.

Tribute to Russ
This book lovingly honors Russ, my husband, and father to our daughters, Holly and Heidi. Family names are used throughout the book in proud tribute to the intelligent, generous, kind, and funny man that he was. There is no shame, no secrecy, in his having Alzheimer’s disease. Anonymity only perpetuates the social taboo associated with dementia. Below are a few family photos—all but the first two taken during our journey with Alzheimer’s. Read Russ’s obituary.
